Grade

Type
gorge
About
Classe III-IV. The Guiers Mort leaves the Grande Chartreuse monastery gorge at Fourvoirie and gives a compact class III-IV run down to Saint-Laurent-du-Pont. Bedrock drops and boulder rapids under dense Chartreuse forest, with old ironworks weirs and wood to watch for. Same unstable hydrology as its twin: get on while levels are dropping after rain. Season: Rain-fed, flashy — spring and autumn after rain; the go-to alternative when the Guiers Vif is at medium levels Gauge reference: Hydroreel reference stations on the Guiers (Saint-Christophe-sur-Guiers); visual check at Saint-Laurent-du-Pont
