Fango — Barghiana (Ponte Vecchiu) to the D81 five-arch bridge near Galeria
Fango · Haute-Corse, Corse
Grade
IV
About
Classe III-IV (V). A gem of the north-west: crystal-clear water over red porphyry slabs and pools through the UNESCO Falasorma biosphere valley. Put in around the old Genoese Ponte Vecchiu near Barghiana or at the Pont de Tuarelli on the D351 and run grade 3-4 slides and boulder gardens to the five-arched D81 bridge above Galeria. Being low-altitude it depends on rain rather than snowmelt, so it works early and late in the season when the big rivers are frozen or empty. Popular swimming river in summer - by then it is far too low. Season: Rain-fed: late autumn and March-May after storms (low catchment, little snow) Gauge reference: Visual at the Pont de Tuarelli (D351)
