Arly — Ugine → Albertville
Arly · Savoie (73), Alpes du Nord
Grade
II
Type
gorge
About
Classe II (III). Typical alpine class II with class III passages depending on level, running from Ugine down to the Isère confluence at Albertville. The famous Gorges de l'Arly upstream between Flumet and Ugine are essentially non-navigable (dams, extreme gradient, flood debris — estimated 4-5+ and rarely if ever run). Flow on the lower river is irregular because of upstream hydro abstraction, so catch it on melt or after rain; watch for weirs near Ugine. Season: Snowmelt spring to early summer; irregular flows, rarely at a good level
