About
This section begins on the Tsomo, which meets the Great Kei after 9km. The Kubusi then enters from the right roughly 20km downstream, with the remainder to the N2 covered as a separate section. At medium levels the opening kilometres hold several major rapids, including a messy waterfall. Sandy beaches provide good overnight camps and fish eagles are regularly seen. The river picks up again shortly before the Kei confluence; the Kei stretch itself lacks large rapids but offers excellent play spots. Because the Tsomo contributes the bulk of the Kei's flow, water levels are best gauged from the blocks below the bridge.
