About
Classe II-III. Historic big-water run of the haute Dordogne, launching at the old gabare village of Spontour below the Aigle dam. Wide, powerful class II-III wave-train rapids in a deep wooded gorge — the course of the celebrated post-war 'descentes internationales' of the upper Dordogne. Flow is entirely dictated by the Aigle power station: superb at 50+ m³/s turbining, a rock garden without it. Take out at the Saint-Projet bridge where the Chastang reservoir stills the current. Season: On EDF turbining/releases from the Barrage de l'Aigle just upstream — check release calendar; ends in Chastang reservoir backwater Gauge reference: EDF Aigle turbining (see EDF Dordogne release info); Vigicrues stations on the haute Dordogne
