About
A small, steep and confined tributary of the Umkomaas that only runs after good rain. The Ngudwini itself is about 5 km long before joining the Umkomaas, with a further 5 km to the Hella-Hella bridge take-out. Shortly after the confluence, a natural weir must be scouted for a wide keeper hole at its base. When the Ngudwini has water, the Umkomaas is usually also running high. Watch for siphons and undercuts — events unfold quickly on this run. A slide/waterfall develops strong suckback at high levels and should be portaged then.
