Truyère · Lozère (48) / Cantal (15), Massif Central
Grade
II
Type
gorge
About
Classe II (III). The last free-flowing stretch of the Truyère before the great chain of EDF reservoirs (Grandval, Sarrans, etc.) swallows the gorge. From the fortified village of Le Malzieu the river runs class II with a few III rapids through increasingly deep granite gorges of the Margeride, finishing on flatwater beneath Eiffel's Garabit viaduct. Remote, little-paddled, and only worthwhile with spring water in the Margeride. Season: Spring (April–June); the lower kilometres drown in the Grandval reservoir backwater Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'Truyère au Malzieu-Ville'
