About
Classe I-II. The tourist descent of the lower Chassezac below Les Vans: a 10 km float from Chambonas through the limestone canyon and the Cirque de Casteljau, turquoise pools between small class I-II rapids and gravel bars. Much of the upper river's water is diverted through EDF penstocks from Pied-de-Borne, so the whitewater sections upstream only run on dam spill (≥5 m³/s spillage) — this lower run keeps enough water for rental boats. Superb swimming and climbing walls en route. Season: April–September; flow depends on EDF diversions upstream — fine for touring most of the season Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'Chassezac à Gravières'; upper WW sections need genuine spill from the Pied-de-Borne complex, not turbining
