Vis — Vis : Madières → Saint-Laurent-le-Minier
Vis · Hérault (34) / Gard (30), Massif Central
Grade
III
Type
gorge
About
Classe III (IV). Gin-clear karst river draining the Causse du Larzac below the Cirque de Navacelles: from Madières the Vis drops through a tight limestone gorge with class III rapids, small travertine ledges and a few IV moves at flow, finishing above the famous cascade-weir of Saint-Laurent-le-Minier (get out above the big waterfall in the village — it has been run but is a serious drop). Cold, beautiful water in an intimate canyon; take care with fallen trees and old mill weirs. Season: Spring and after rain; the Foux de la Vis resurgence gives a karst base flow but sporting levels need rain Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'Vis à Saint-Laurent-le-Minier'
