Teebus River
Teebus River · eastern cape
Grade
III
Length
25km
Duration
4 to 5 hours
About
25km, grade 1-3. First stage of the Gariep-Fish transfer scheme — paddleable year-round (flow controlled by Fish River Tunnel release). No permits. Do NOT put in on the canal itself — the canal-to-river transition is a serious hazard. Follow the road alongside the canal to its end and put in directly on the river. Fast and continuous but no serious rapids. Numerous surf waves, particularly on the upper section above the halfway bridge — paddlers focused on playing may prefer to run only the top half. Weirs are numerous on the full stretch; most are runnable but all must be scouted.
