Tavignano — Upper Tavignano gorge (hike-in above Corte)

Classe V-VI (X). Expedition steep-creeking: over a third of the Tavignano's length is untouched by road, so the upper gorge is reached only by carrying boats up the Mare a Mare Nord footpath from Corte (allow 2-3 hours to the Russulinu footbridge area). The open upper valley runs at grade 5-6 but is overgrown; as the shallow gorge closes in the difficulty rises to grade 6+ with portages, before easing to around grade 4 through Corte itself. Serious, committing and for expert teams only. Season: April-May snowmelt (source is Lac de Nino at 1743 m)
