About
Classe IV (V, portageable drops). Considered the most beautiful of the Tinée runs (eauxvives.org Tinée P4): a superb committing gorge from the entrance of Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée to the head of the Bancairon reservoir. Upstream, the P3 reach below the Isola dam only carries water on releases and holds several class 5-6 rapids, all portageable. Difficulties concentrate in two mini-gorges; scout and set safety. Take out at the start of the reservoir slackwater. Season: Spring snowmelt (April-June); reaches below Isola depend on dam releases Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'La Tinée à La Tour [Pont de Clans]' (downstream); Isola dam release dependent above Saint-Sauveur
