About
Classe III (IV: La Roche qui Pleure, Baraque à Poney). The classic raft-and-kayak run of the Massif Central, through the granite gorges of the Haut-Allier below the Monistrol hydro station. Two class IV cruxes punctuate steady class III: La Roche qui Pleure 2.5 km in, and the 300 m wave-train of Baraque à Poney. Reliable summer whitewater by French standards thanks to the Naussac reservoir supporting Allier low flows. Commercial rafting base at Monistrol. Season: April–October thanks to Naussac dam support releases; best sporty levels April–May and August release weeks Gauge reference: Naussac support releases + Vigicrues 'Allier à Prades'; local bases quote ~10–30 m³/s as the fun band
