Gave d'Aspe — Etsaut - Bedous
Gave d'Aspe · Pyrénées-Atlantiques (64), Pyrénées
Grade

About
Classe IV (dangerous weir at Cette-Eygun). The classic sporting run of the Aspe valley, putting in upstream of Etsaut at the start of the Chemin de la Mâture and taking out at the rugby-pitch/restaurant in Bedous. Sustained class III-IV alpine boulder rapids in a beautiful valley on the Somport road. Two serious hazards documented by eauxvives.org: a dangerous undercut weir (sill with a cavity) upstream of Cette-Eygun, and a dam roughly 400 m upstream of the Lescun diversion - identify and portage both. Wood can collect after floods. Season: April-June snowmelt; rain spates Gauge reference: eauxvives.org keys the run to gauge readings at Urdos and Oloron; go on snowmelt afternoons.
