About

Classe III (IV+ gorge finale, V at high water). The infant Loire at its best: below the castle village of Goudet the first 5 km are open class II with one fine class III, then the river slots into a granite gorge with a IV+ crux (class V at high water) between sheer walls — scout/portage left bank — followed by superb bedrock passages to the D37 bridge at Chadron. About 30 m of drop concentrated in the final gorge. A Velay classic within sight of Mont Gerbier-de-Jonc's volcanic country. Season: Spring (snowmelt + rain, March–May) and autumn spates; minimum ~7 m³/s, handles high flow well Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'Loire à Goudet'; ≥7 m³/s minimum per eauxvives.org
