About

Classe III-IV (V). The upper Tech in the Vallespir is a steep Mediterranean granite river run on snowmelt or after big rain. From the bridge on the Lamanère road above Le Tech village down towards Arles-sur-Tech, expect continuous class III-IV boulder rapids with at least one class V rapid near the standard take-out - eauxvives.org advises getting out at a bend before the grade V rapid via a hard-to-find path to the road. The 1940 flood-scarred valley still moves rock in every spate, so lines change; scout anything blind. Flashy river: it comes up and drops fast. Season: Spring snowmelt and after heavy rain (Mediterranean regime, flashy) Gauge reference: Only after snowmelt or heavy rain; Vallespir levels drop within days of a spate.
