About
Classe IV-V (X, portages). The mythic Guil gorges (eauxvives.org Guil P2): the short, narrow Combe de Château-Queyras beneath the fort, then the longer, more technical Combe de l'Ange Gardien. Numerous must-scout drops; almost everything can be portaged from within the gorge except one passage. Wood is a recurring hazard after floods and the bed changes yearly - treat every horizon line with respect. Expert territory; several historic accidents here. Season: May-early August; best May-July snowmelt Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'Le Guil à Mont-Dauphin'; local échelle at Château-Queyras bridge
