Grade
III
Type
gorge
About
Classe III (III+). An under-the-radar gem of the Hautes-Alpes: 7 km of winding limestone gorge with small falls, chutes, whirlpool pools and pebble beaches, giving playful class 3(3+) when it runs. The catch is water - the Méouge is rarely navigable, so jump on it after wet spells. Some ledges/weirs (including near the medieval Pont Roman) need a look. Joins the Buëch near Ribiers/Val Buëch-Méouge. Season: Rain-dependent: spring and after sustained autumn rain only - rarely has enough water
