About

Classe III (IV, rockfall rapid often portaged). Descent of the spectacular red-pelite 'Colorado Niçois' gorge. Put in at Guillaumes or the Pont des Roberts just above the gorge; mostly read-and-run class III between crimson walls, with one class 4 rapid in a rockfall zone that is usually portaged. A small dam in the lower gorge has poor stopping distance at high water - do not swim above it. Minimum ~1.4 m3/s at Pont d'Enaux (roughly 10 m3/s at Entrevaux); good level from ~5 m3/s (~35 m3/s at Entrevaux). Season: Rain- and snowmelt-fed: spring (April-June) and after autumn rains; levels rise very fast in storms Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'Le Var à Entrevaux'; local échelle at Pont d'Enaux
