About

Classe V (V+, siphon hazard). The hardest and most committed water in the Ubaye valley: 4 km of class V at ~20 m/km from Les Moulins below Le Lauzet down to the bridge at the head of Lac de Serre-Ponçon. Key rapids include Fosse aux Lions (Lion's Den) with sticky pour-overs and La Moulinette (The Blender), which hides a notorious siphon - scout or portage. Expert teams only, with bank safety set on the cruxes. Season: Spring-early summer at moderate snowmelt levels; deadly in flood Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'L'Ubaye au Lauzet-Ubaye [Roche-Rousse]' (station X045401001)
