About

Classe III-IV (pin hazard in 'Le Seuil'). Brittany's premier natural whitewater site and long-time slalom venue: the Ellé crashes through the granite chaos of the Roches du Diable in two major passages — a big S-bend rapid, then 'Le Seuil', ~300 m of drops threading large boulders where pins are frequent for the inexperienced. Rated III-IV, it hosts slalom training and races and is the benchmark run for every whitewater paddler in western France. Put in at the La Loge Coucou bridge (D790), take out near the Ty Nadan campsite below the gorge; scouting paths follow the left bank. Season: Autumn to early spring after rain; navigation forbidden from the opening of the fishing season Gauge reference: Ellé at Arzano; needs good winter flow — the site works after sustained rain
