About

Classe II. Quiet limestone-gorge alternative to the Ardèche: from Tharaux the Cèze winds through wild garrigue gorges to the medieval village of Montclus, class II riffles and weir chutes between swimming pools. Well downstream, at La Roque-sur-Cèze, the Cascades du Sautadet are a lethal siphoned travertine cataract — strictly forbidden and fatal; all trips take out well above. Rental bases operate the gorge in season. Season: April–June best; often too low late summer; flashy after Cévenol storms Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'Cèze à Tharaux'
