Grade

Type
gorge · dam
About
Classe II-III. Friendly section of a river with a hard reputation: between Le Chambon-sur-Lignon and Tence the Lignon alternates flats and class II-III rapid sequences in typical Cévenol style — a good plateau warm-up before the serious III-IV and V gorges further downstream (Pont de l'Enceinte → Pont de Lignon, incl. the 'crocodile' class 5). Downstream sections are affected by the Lavalette dam and irregular, near-instant power-plant releases: stay alert to rising water. Season: Spring (March–May) and after rain; beware sudden hydro-plant releases on the lower river Gauge reference: eauxvives.org Lignon du Velay level page (Chambon station); hydro releases can arrive within minutes
