Golo — Scala di Santa Regina gorge
Golo · Haute-Corse, Corse
Grade
VI
Type
gorge
About
Classe V-VI (X). The dramatic granite defile below the Calacuccia dam, followed by the D84. Water is abstracted at the head of the gorge and returned near Ponte Castirla, so the gorge is normally dry; with water it would run at solid grade 5 and up, with the narrow upper part lower-gradient and the bottom half the steepest. A committing expert inspection-heavy trip only worth looking at during dam spill or major flood. Escape is possible but arduous up to the road. Season: Rarely runnable - only in flood/spill conditions (hydro abstraction)
