About
Classe II-III. The first French kilometres of the Garonne below the old border crossing at Pont du Roi/Fos, fed by the Val d'Aran snowpack and by releases from the Pont d'Es Bordes power plant upstream in Spain. Bouncy class II-III wave trains through a broad mountain valley to Saint-Béat-Lez, the main whitewater hub of the Haute-Garonne Pyrenees with a dedicated water-sports base. Straightforward, high-volume-feeling water by Pyrenean standards; watch for weirs near villages. Harder water (up to a short class V gorge below Bossòst) lies upstream on the Spanish Garona. Season: April-July snowmelt; supported by Spanish releases Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'Garonne à Saint-Béat'; releases from the Spanish plant firm up levels on weekdays.
