Meurthe — Haute Meurthe: Le Rudlin — Fraize
Meurthe · Vosges (88)
Grade
III
About
Classe III (IV-). The whitewater headwater reach of the Meurthe under the Hautes-Vosges crests: a narrow, fast class III(IV-) descent from the Rudlin valley through Plainfaing to Fraize, needing plenty of water. Below Fraize the river eases to class II-III to Anould, then class II past Saint-Dié and Raon-l'Étape (slalom site) — a good progression ladder for Lorraine clubs. Watch for low footbridges and wood in the upper kilometres. Season: Winter/spring snowmelt and strong rain events only; small headwater stream Gauge reference: Vigicrues Meurthe at Fraize/Saint-Dié; go after heavy rain or during snowmelt
