About
An easy 13km section ideal for beginners, with long flat pools, mostly small rapids and a few weirs. The largest rapid, Constantia, lies 2km below the put-in; run left at low water and right at higher levels. The adjacent landowners are unfriendly, so remain in the river and portage over rocks if needed. About 1km downstream, Hennops weir must be portaged on the right. Rambo's bridge sits just past halfway. Cross over the top at very high levels; otherwise exit left, walk across and re-enter right. When the bridge is just submerged, a strong keeper hole forms behind it. Around 3km further is the first Pelindaba weir: portage right (recommended), or shoot the far right at a right-to-left angle — avoid the obvious left chute, where a fallen concrete pillar creates reinforced debris hazards. The second Pelindaba weir, 200m below, can be shot down the centre fish jump (commit, as it is high) or portaged on the left. Take out at Roos se Oord on the right below the Broederstroom bridge; the adjacent Bushveld Pub and Grub allows vehicle parking and post-trip refreshments. Permission is needed at the reserve entrance and at Roos se Oord.
