Grade

Type
gorge
About
Classe III (IV). Rain-fed granite gorge followed by the historic Mastrou steam railway: continuous class III with class IV cruxes between Lamastre and Boucieu-le-Roi, boulder gardens and bedrock chutes in a deep, scenic defile. Only comes in after serious rain on the Vivarais plateau and drops fast — when the Doux is too low, the Eyrieux or Glueyre usually still run. Watch for weirs serving old mills. Season: After heavy rain, generally autumn and early spring; very flashy Gauge reference: Vigicrues 'Doux à Colombier-le-Vieux'; needs a genuine flood pulse — eauxvives lists it as 'navigable after big rain, usually autumn'
