About
A remote multi-day run strictly for competent kayakers, with no proper access between the put-in and take-out. Surroundings are untouched, and the rapids are large, sometimes bordering on frightening. The section is continuous with technical rapids and short pools. Sitting below all major tributaries, the river is wide and offers multiple lines through most rapids. Gong-Gong Falls on the first day is a compulsory portage. Several other steep rapids on each day require scouting before being run. The final four hours to the take-out are flat and a slog, but residual adrenaline helps push through. Best tackled only by experienced paddlers, for whom it is a highly rewarding expedition.
