About
Classe II (III). Auvergne's classic gorge tour: from the spa of Châteauneuf-les-Bains the Sioule winds beneath the medieval Château Rocher and the Pont de Menat through wild wooded gorges to Ebreuil. Mostly class I-II moving water with the II-III crux kilometres between Pont de Menat and Pont de Saint-Gal; several weirs need care or the canoe chutes. Usually paddled in halves (Châteauneuf → Menat 13 km is the wildest scenery); rental bases at both ends. Season: March–September; 5 m³/s summer low, ~20 m³/s medium, 40 m³/s high (flow moderated by the Queuille dam upstream) Gauge reference: Stations 'Sioule à Châteauneuf' (upstream) and 'Sioule à Ebreuil' (downstream)
