About
34 km day trip. Competent K1 paddlers - comparable to the 1-8 section below Hella-Hella; do not underestimate. Opens with long flat pools and scattered small rapids. Where the river splits into channels, take care - one channel contains a serious rapid. Hazards: - 12 m waterfall: dirt road meets the river on the left bank ~1 km upstream. Stay left and portage on the left. - Whirlpool: 2 km below the waterfall. Mean rapid, runnable by skilled K1 paddlers, best portaged on the left bank. - Gulley Rapid: 5 km further; tight lines. - No-Name: boulder garden 1 km later; stay left. - Goodenough's Weir: known boat-breaker. Right chute can be run before the rocky rapid below, but a quick portage on the left bank is strongly recommended. Downstream of the weir to the sea is flat and not worth paddling.
