About
Classe III (IV). Steep little sister of the Tarn, dropping through the Gorges de la Jonte between the Causse Méjean and Causse Noir with griffon vultures overhead. Read-and-run class III bedrock and boulder rapids with a few IV ledges, in a canyon nearly as spectacular as the Tarn but far quieter. Sections of the riverbed sink underground in low water, so it only runs at genuine spring or spate levels. Take out at the Tarn confluence in Le Rozier. Season: Spring (March–May) and after big rain — the karst 'pertes' swallow the river in low water Gauge reference: Échelle at Meyrueis: minimum ~0.25 m (eauxvives.org min 0.23 m confirmed for the lower part)
