About
Two 8 km stretches just above Augrabies Falls. ~4 to 5 hours total. Kayaks, crocs and rafts at high water. Flow controlled by Vanderkloof Dam and Bloemhof Dam. First 8 km: starts on private farm, ends at a river camp inside a private game reserve. Class 1 to 2 rapids, a few bordering class 3 at higher water. Good surfwaves when levels are up. Second 8 km: runs largely through Augrabies National Park. A long island splits the river. - Normal levels: run the northern channel - class 2 and 3, excellent surfwaves. - High water: run the southern channel - the take-out 300 m above the falls becomes risky from the northern side.
