About

Most accessible stretch on the Mzimvubu. Just below the N2 bridge is a weir with a boat ramp on the right. Gradient picks up below the weir with rapids roughly every 100m — mostly pool-drop, read-and-run for experienced paddlers. Under the right conditions, rapids hundreds of metres long form beneath canyon walls. In the last 10km before Welsh bridge the rapids step up a grade, previewing the gorge below. Welsh bridge is the take-out for most paddlers — do NOT continue downstream unless skilled, confident, and well prepared (the gorge below is committing). Heavily populated area; expect to be greeted by villagers and children.
