Type
gorge
About
Classe III-IV (wood hazard). Steep, manoeuvring-intensive torrent of the Parc naturel du Haut-Jura, running wooded gorges with a sustained succession of class III-IV rapids and boiling straights. Trees frequently block channels partially or completely — scout and treat every blind corner with suspicion. Take out at Confort or at the Métral dam; do NOT continue into the terminal Pertes de la Valserine gorge above the Rhône confluence at Bellegarde, which is siphoned and unrunnable at most levels. Upstream Lélex–Chézery offers a similar but slightly easier continuation used to extend the day. Season: Snowmelt (April–June) and after heavy rain; rain-fed Haut-Jura torrent Gauge reference: Minimum ~80 cm at the metal footbridge gauge at 'La Rivière'; hydro reference station at Chézery
